Gender, Race & Health Equity and Human Services

True equity arises from access to social determinants such as wealth, power and prestige. Individuals and communities that have consistently been deprived of these three determinants are significantly disadvantaged and face entrenched obstacles to true equality. For example, despite women of color being at the root of countless impactful grassroots movements, they only receive 0.5% of the $66.9 billion in annual philanthropic giving. Our work in this area has included helping fund targeted programs as well as facilitating systemic change to ensure access and opportunity for all.

Disparities in education, low-income households and overexposure to the juvenile and criminal justice systems create long-lasting economic and social consequences that contribute to the vicious cycles of poverty and crime. To have a healthy community, strengthening cultural commentary and preserving heritage and history is imperative. We work with the City of Detroit Art Fund – Arts, Culture and Entrepreneurship, in the performing, visual, and fine arts, humanities and historic preservation, literature, folklife, and other creative activities. We believe the Arts help us to manifest a spirit of understanding.

Sports & Fitness Programs

Structured, safe, and healthy recreational activity for adults & children promotes overall physical strength, discipline, and provides a boost to self-esteem and general well-being. We co-created fundraising programs in this vein that have served over 8,000 inner-city children. Additionally, we have fundraising expertise and hard-won perspectives from working with the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Currently, we are working with the Republic of Uganda to revitalize Mandela National Stadium, while simultaneously constructing a recreation and sports infrastructure standard, improving long-term athletic development, teaching young athletes proper  techniques to help them learn skills that will enable them to succeed in school, home, and in the community. We aim to see Uganda’s poverty level continue to diminish through increased economic opportunities.
